Tamarack's Artists-in-Residence Program is back and

it's BIGGER and BETTER than ever!

This year, with the help of the Ontario Arts Council, Tamarack is able to support the creation and presentation of new work in any discipline by 6 artists from Northern Ontario.

The primary goal of these residencies is to provide Northern artists with paid work and the opportunity to bring that work to Northern audiences, who in turn benefit from greater access to arts programming in their home communities. The residencies are also intended to encourage more cross-disciplinary collaboration by bringing together artists from different areas of Northern Ontario, working in a variety of artistic fields.

The residencies will culminate in public offerings at the Tamarack Festival, taking place late September 2026. Out-of-town artists will be provided with transportation to Timmins and up to 3 nights accommodation to take part in the festival, which will serve as a networking and professional development opportunity, where artists who may not have otherwise met, can connect, be inspired and learn from one another.

Access

We've tried to make this submission process as accessible as possible. However, if you have any questions, require assistance or would appreciate an alternate format, do not hesitate to email us at tamarackfestival@gmail.com

The Tamarack Arts Association is committed to accessibility, inclusion and diversity. We invite artists of ALL ages, genders, races, cultures and abilities to apply and we strongly encourage artists from equity-deserving groups to apply.

Compensation

Each artist-in-residence will be awarded a total of $1,500, which represents:

  • a $1,000 grant for the equivalent of one week or 40 hours of work at $25/hour, to be completed according to the artist's own schedule within the residency period (May through September)

  • a $500 presenting fee for a public offering at the 2026 Tamarack Festival

Eligibility

In order to apply for this residency, artists must be based in Northern Ontario.

Call for Jurors

Tamarack is also seeking jurors from Northern Ontario to assess applications for the 2026 Artists-in-Residence Program.

We are seeking 5 jurors who:

  • Are professional artists currently living in Northern Ontario

  • Are willing to work together with Artistic and Executive Director Jessie Bergeron to choose the best applications for the opportunity

  • Have a connection to and knowledge of the Northern Ontario arts community

  • Are not applying for the opportunity or involved with any application

  • Have approximately 10* hours during the month of March, 2026 to devote to this process.

Our goal is to assemble a jury that is as diverse as possible with regards to geography (within Northern Ontario), artistic practice, age, and background, providing as many varied perspectives as possible.

Jurors will be paid a $250 honorarium for their time, energy and expertise.

To get involved, please send an email by 11:59PM, February 28th, 2026 to tamarackfestival@gmail.com with the subject line JURY, indicating your interest and briefly outlining your connection to the Northern Ontario arts community.

*Time commitment is calculated based on what we estimate will be the necessary time to read applications, provide brief constructive comments, and meet as a jury to decide on the successful applications. The amount of time will, of course, be subject to how many applications are received.
